Competitiveness and protection for workers: compatible goals in agriculture?
On May 8th will take place in Rome the seminar entitled 'Competitiveness of the company and protection of employees: compatible goals in agriculture?' organized within the project "Promotion of Peasant Culture." The low impact of agricultural employment on the total national employment, as well as the identification of the farmer with the owner, probably contributed to limit the attention on the working conditions in agriculture.
This phenomenon has been highly captured the other hand by the industrial sector. The re-evaluation of the role that agriculture can play in the production of social welfare, and considering that events of extreme exploitation occur in the Italian countryside, lead to a reflection on the limits and contradictions of a sector that wants to present itself as a modern, internationalized and of high quality.
The agricultural sector often is not able to guarantee decent living conditions to its leading actors, those who - from employees, but also by self-employed - are spending their time and energy in agriculture.
The seminar is an opportunity to analyze and discuss the different aspects involved in agricultural work and the role of agricultural policies, through innovative ways of development of human capital.
Please send confirmation by email to: giglio@inea.it to attend the seminar no later than 6 May 2013.
