This survey was carried out in the context of a specific agreement between the Directorate for Agriculture of the Autonomous Region of Valle D'Aosta (ARVA) and INEA whose main purpose is to gather relevant evidence to the rescheduling of the rural development measures and regional agricultural policies for the period 2014-2020.

The performance of livestock companies and, in particular, the cost of production of cow's milk is as relevant as ever for Valle D'Aosta, where livestock farming contributes very significantly to the regional agricultural production considering the recommendations made by the European Commission through the regulatory proposals in October 2011 as well as the broad discussion which took place later in the Agricultural and Rural Development Commission of the European Parliament and the Council of European Ministers.
