Phase 1 (2005-2008)
In the first phase of the project, INEA defined a shared framework serving as a baseline for paths of social responsibility in the agri-food system, as well as a tool to promote and disseminate its key elements. To this end, the following works were published:
- guidelines "Promoting Social Responsibility of farms and agri-food enterprises";
- case study "The Italian experiences on corporate social responsibility in the food and agriculture sector";
- a theoretical study "The social responsibility for companies in the food and agriculture sector."
Phase 2 (2009-2010)
The relevance of social responsibility in the primary sector led INEA to deepen other issues of remarkable importance, including:
- sustainable production methods;
- responsible consumption;
- food chain sustainability.
More publications endorsed each of the topics above, together with the proceedings of the seminar held in Rome on June, 16th 2009.
Phase 3 (2011-2012)
The participation of INEA to the United Nations Global Compact inspired the third phase of the project and its in-depth study of social responsibility in the wine industry. The working group identified the most popular good practices in the vineyard and in the cellar in terms of sustainability through the use of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The phase ended with a special seminar, followed by the publication of its proceedings.
Phase 4 (2013-2014)
Today the working group is engaged in organizing trainings, workshops and laboratories addressed to public and private stakeholders in the Val d'Agri area (Basilicata). Besides, INEA researchers on CSR have been participating to several multilateral meetings on CSR and human rights led by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the beginning of 2013, the work carried out by INEA was mentioned within the National Action Plan 2012/2014 on Corporate Social Responsibility .
