World Water Day 2014 on Water and Energy is coordinated by

AND

In 1993, the General Assembly of the United Nations has declared March 22 "World Water Day". Every year, the Day is celebrated with local, national and international initiatives, on one or more specific topics related to water. Also this year, INEA celebrates the "Day" with own initiatives aimed at promoting the debate on the sustainable management of water resources, mainly focusing on the problems and opportunities of the relationship between water and energy in agriculture.

According to the objectives that UNESCO has identified for 2014, this year the Day will be dedicated to Water and Energy, elements which are closely interrelated and interdependent. On the one hand, the production and distribution of energy requires the use of water resources, mainly hydro-energy sources, as well as nuclear and heat sources. On the other hand, approximately 8% of global energy production is used for the collection, treatment and distribution of water to the various users.

In 2014, one of the main objectives aims at facilitating the development of policies and integration with the sectors involved in order to ensure energy security and the sustainable use of water resources in a specific context and according to the principles of the green economy.
