Forestry and rural development policies for the 2014-2020 programming

On the 15th and 16th January 2014, it has been held the conference "Forestry and rural development policies for the 2014-2020 programming" at the Great Hall of the Rectorship of Florence (Piazza San Marco, 4), organized by the National Rural Network and the working group "Landscape" of the Ministry of Agriculture,  in cooperation with the Forest Observatory of INEA and the Department of management of agricultural systems, food and forestry of the University of Florence.

The conference represents a moment of reflection to define a new and more effective national forestry policy with a long-term strategic vision, examining the tools and the necessary commitments to the enhancement of the Italian forests. The forest is one of the most important infrastructures in the country and an important resource which can not be relocated, where you need to invest financial and cultural resources for the economic development, for the protection and enhancement of the environment and landscape, and in order to be effectively useful to the achievement of international commitments entered into by Italy in terms of landscape, combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and trade of wood products. All this requires an "active management" of forest resources and a different approach aimed also to review the settings so far adopted in the political sector.

The two days of Florence will also be an opportunity to analyze, together with stakeholders, strategies and actions for the forestry sector which have been already realized and propose useful ideas and suggestions for the next EU programming period 2014-2020. The conference takes place as part of the path toward the first international conference for the implementation of the Joint program between UNESCO and CBD on the links between biological and cultural diversity at few days before the celebration of 100 years since the inauguration the first academic forestry course in Florence, to be held on the 18th January at the Rectorship.
